X Debuts Payments Feature Account, Sparking Crypto Integration Rumors
The crypto community is abuzz with speculation following the introduction of a dedicated account for X's anticipated payments feature, set to launch in 2024. This move by Elon Musk's "everything app" X (previously known as Twitter), has led many to ponder the inclusion of cryptocurrency options.
Expectations are mounting for the X app to roll out its in-app payment services by mid-2024, though it remains unclear if this will extend to include cryptocurrency alongside traditional fiat currencies.
The newly established XPayments account on X has yet to post but has been verified, as indicated by a gold badge, and is officially linked to X through the X badge.
Crypto analyst Mason Versluis expressed his enthusiasm to his 169,000 followers about the prospect of cryptocurrencies with an “X” prefix, like XRP, XLM and XDC, being integrated into the app.
Given Elon Musk's history of supporting Dogecoin, including its use for purchasing Tesla merchandise and his frequent social media mentions, there's widespread speculation that Dogecoin might be the first cryptocurrency featured on X.
The community is keenly interpreting Musk's and X's subtle hints, including a meme posted in October 2023 involving a dog and a phone, as signs of Dogecoin's potential role in future projects.
Contrastingly, crypto analyst Tokenicer noted a perceived decline in X's support for crypto-related content, observing a decrease in his revenue from the platform's ad-sharing system, suggesting fluctuations in the platform's crypto engagement.
Despite these observations, the compensation system for content creators, based on impressions, could account for the variability in earnings.
Since Musk's acquisition of Twitter in April 2022, there's been much speculation about its transformation and the possible incorporation of cryptocurrency, fueled by Musk's comments over the years. In July 2023, it was reported that Musk envisions X as a platform capable of managing users' entire financial activities.
