Popular Bitcoin payments app Wallet of Satoshi in the Lightening network has vanished from Apple and Google's U.S. app stores without explanation. The Lightning Network-powered wallet was on pace to process over 1.1 million transactions in November, according to industry analyst Kevin Rooke.

Wallet of Satoshi confirmed on Twitter that it chose to withdraw from the U.S. market and cease serving American customers for undisclosed reasons. The company hinted that it could resume services in the future "depending on developments."

The abrupt pullout sparked confusion and frustration among crypto users. Wallet of Satoshi continues to be available in other countries like Australia and Singapore. U.S. customers retain access to wallet funds and can transfer holdings to other platforms.

Apple has faced growing backlash over its App Store policies, including a 30% commission on in-app payments. A recent lawsuit alleges Apple imposes anti-competitive restrictions on iOS crypto apps. The tech giant has previously barred apps supporting crypto features.

Wallet of Satoshi did not explain why it exited the U.S. market despite strong growth. But Apple's tight control over payments and wallets could be a factor given prior crypto app removals. The issue highlights tensions between Big Tech gatekeepers and crypto innovation.
