zkSync Network Goes Dark for 5 Hours on Christmas Due to Bug
Developers of the zkSync network got an unwelcomed Christmas present as a software bug knocked zkSync offline for nearly 5 hours on December 25th.
In a holiday morning tweet, zkSync developers reported encountering unspecified "network issues" and committed to restoring services. At 10:52 UTC the team declared the problem resolved, pinned on an automated safety protocol erroneously triggered by a system glitch.
The incident began around 5:50 UTC, implying roughly 5 hours of downtime before zkSync resumed full functionality. The developers promised a complete post-mortem report of the crash in the near future.
Network disruptions have unfortunately become more commonplace in crypto in 2023. Polygon, and Arbitrum have faced multi-hour crashes stemming from bugs, exploits or excessive load.
